What it does
EQuivocate is a graphic EQ from Newfangled Audio (sold through Eventide) with 26 filters spaced on the Mel scale, which follows how the ear divides frequency.
- Match EQ: matches one track's tonal balance to another, or to a reference.
- Linear-phase FIR filters: designed to avoid pre-echo artifacts.
- Editing: draw the curve with the mouse, solo individual bands and customise the filter frequencies.
- Workflow aids: auto level compensation, Delta Listen mode, A/B comparison and artist presets.

When to use it
EQuivocate is a broad, fixed-band tone-shaping and matching tool rather than a surgical parametric EQ like FabFilter Pro-Q 4. It suits quick tonal balancing across a whole track or mix, and referencing one recording against another.
- Best for: mastering-style tonal moves, matching stems to a reference, and broad corrections.
- Look elsewhere if: you need freely placed bands, narrow notches or dynamic EQ.
