What it does
V76U73 emulates the 1950s Telefunken V76 tube preamp and U73 variable-mu compressor/limiter.
- V76 preamp: tube preamp section with high-pass and low-pass filters.
- U73 compressor: variable-mu compressor/limiter.
- Linear function: extends the frequency response.
- Practical extras: sidechain filter, Mix knob, stereo mode selector and automatic gain compensation.
- Interface: four resizable GUI layouts.
When to use it
V76U73 combines preamp colour and vari-mu compression in one plugin, so it works as a single-insert vintage channel. It's a different flavour from the fast FET and opto compressors that dominate the compressor category.
- Best for: vocals, drums, bass and mix buses that benefit from tube colour and slow, smooth gain reduction.
Where to buy
- Plugin Alliance: $125
