What it does
RealTele is MusicLab's sampled Fender Telecaster, played from a MIDI keyboard or programmed in a DAW. It is the newest guitar in the range and adds a new strumming engine with smoother chord transitions.
- Two voices: RealTele Classic has an open, ringing top end and the Tele's bridge-pickup snap; RealTele Modern has a smoother top and fuller low mids for current production.
- Sampling: each single-coil pickup is sampled on its own with 12 layers per fret, from light to hard picking, and the middle position is recorded as a real pickup combination rather than a digital blend.
- Tone control: a tone knob that works like the one on a real guitar, as a high-frequency filter.
- Playing and control: guitar techniques triggered by key switches, velocity, mod wheel, sustain pedal, aftertouch, MIDI CC or DAW automation, played live, from DAW MIDI or through the song sequencer.
- Chords and rhythms: the patented voicing engine plays 30 chord types in all inversions, extensions and alterations, and the 1,250-pattern rhythm library builds accompaniment, with humanization for realism.
- Tones: 350 preset tones with amp and effects, using the open-source Guitarix amp.
Version 1.0 comes with a fully working 15-day trial.
When to use it
RealTele is the MusicLab pick for twangy single-coil parts: clean country licks, snappy rhythm and pop strumming. Compared with RealStrat it has the Tele's brighter bridge snap and a choice of Classic and Modern voices, and its new strumming engine gives smoother chord changes than the older models. Compared with RealLPC it is lighter and brighter, without the humbucker weight. Unlike Heavier7Strings, it is aimed at clean and crunchy styles rather than metal.
- Best for: twangy clean rhythm, country-style licks, chicken-picking lines and pop strumming.
- Genres: country, pop, indie, soul and rock.
- Look elsewhere if: you want humbucker weight (RealLPC), the three-pickup Strat palette (RealStrat) or an acoustic (RealGuitar).
