What it does

The MF-104S is Moog's plugin recreation of the MF-104 Moogerfooger analog delay, a pedal from 2000 designed by Bob Moog and his team. Moog describes it as "a rich, full-bodied delay and modulation circuit," built on bucket-brigade (BBD) delay emulation.

KVR lists version 1.3.0. It is also part of Moog's bundle of seven Moogerfooger plugins.

When to use it

MF-104S is the pick for one specific sound: dark, warm bucket-brigade repeats with a vintage feel. Compared with EchoBoy or Timeless 3, it has far fewer styles and no multi-tap, groove or deep filter modulation, but its single voice is very characterful and quick to dial in. Unlike Galaxy Tape Echo or Delay TAPE-201, it models a BBD pedal rather than a tape unit, so the repeats are darker and smoother rather than saturated and wobbly. Its 800ms limit and lack of tap tempo make it less flexible than ValhallaDelay for long or performance-based delays.

What producers say

Reviewers found its dark, syrupy BBD tone hard to match with other delays, with missing tap tempo and longer delay times as the main gripes.
