Keywords: BBD, electric guitar, warm, keys, rhythmic, synths, analog delay, discontinued, mixing, organic, vocals.
What it does
JHS Panther Cub is MixWave's model of the JHS Panther Cub V2, a bucket brigade analog delay pedal that is no longer made. The developer says it captures "the organic character of the original hardware" with digital control on top.
- Delay: up to 1000 ms of warm, analog-style bucket brigade repeats.
- Modulation: rate and depth controls for movement in the repeats; Guitar.com notes the plugin brings back the adjustable modulation of the original, larger Panther pedal.
- Tap tempo and subdivisions: tap in a tempo and choose quarter, eighth, dotted eighth or triplet repeats.
- Mix: a wet/dry control, so it works on an insert or a send.
- Filters: high-pass and low-pass filters on the input and output to keep the repeats out of the way.
KVR lists version 1.0.1. A 14-day fully working trial is available. It is also part of MixWave's JHS Loud Is More Good collection.
When to use it
JHS Panther Cub is a single-pedal delay with one clear sound: warm, modulated bucket brigade repeats. Compared with EchoBoy, it offers one style instead of dozens and no rhythm or groove controls, but it costs a fraction of the price and is quicker to set. It is close to Comeback Kid in spirit, a simple character delay, though Comeback Kid adds ducking and more tone shaping. Against Valhalla Delay or Timeless 3 it has no tape, digital or ping-pong modes and no deep modulation routing. Its tap tempo and dotted-eighth setting make it easy to get classic rhythmic guitar delays.
- Best for: warm, rhythmic guitar delays and modulated repeats on keys and synths.
- Genres: rock, indie, worship, shoegaze and ambient.
- Look elsewhere if: you want tape, digital, ping-pong or multi-tap delays; EchoBoy or Valhalla Delay cover far more.
What producers say
The only review found covers the whole JHS collection: it liked the sound and interface but saw it mainly as a buy for JHS fans.
- Guitar.com (Richard Purvis, 2025) gave the Loud Is More Good collection 7 out of 10, saying "the tones are spot-on" and the interface is a pleasure to use.
- Criticisms: the same review found the collection small, with five pedals and one amp, and saw little reason to buy unless you are a JHS enthusiast. KVR lists no user reviews yet.
