What it does
JHS Morning Glory is MixWave's model of the JHS overdrive pedal, a low-gain drive known for adding grit without masking the guitar. MixWave aims for "transparent, amp-like breakup with clarity and touch sensitivity", with extra mix tools the pedal never had.
- Circuit model: component-level modeling of the original pedal, covering the range from a subtle edge to fuller, dynamic saturation.
- Dynamics: the drive follows picking strength and the guitar's volume knob, so you can clean up by playing softer or rolling back.
- Tone: the pedal's EQ structure plus a hi-cut switch for taming the top end on brighter amps or pickups.
- Wet/dry mix: a plugin-only clean blend, so you can add drive in parallel and keep the dry attack (the hardware has no blend control).
- Input and output filters: a high-pass before the circuit and a low-pass after it, for trimming boom going in and fizz coming out.
- Bypass: a pedal-style bypass switch for quick A/B checks.
A 14-day fully working trial is available. It is sold on its own, and it is also part of MixWave's JHS Loud Is More Good Collection.
When to use it
JHS Morning Glory is the pick when you want light, transparent breakup that keeps the guitar's own tone. Compared with The Scream, which follows the Tube Screamer's mid-heavy voice, it colours the tone less and suits players who want drive without a strong mid hump. It is far narrower than Saturn 2, which offers many saturation styles and multiband shaping for any source, but it is quicker to dial in for guitar. Next to Devil-Loc Deluxe it is gentle; it adds warmth and edge rather than crushed, aggressive grit.
- Best for: edge-of-breakup guitar on clean amp sims, light drive, stacking in front of other drives, and gentle grit on bass and keys.
- Genres: rock, indie, blues, country and pop.
- Look elsewhere if: you need high gain (JHS Hard Drive goes much further) or broad mix saturation for any source (Saturn 2).
- Tip: use the wet/dry mix to blend a little drive under the clean signal, keeping pick attack while adding thickness.
What producers say
Reviewers find it an accurate, transparent overdrive; the reservations are about the size of the JHS collection it comes in, not this plugin's sound.
- Guitar.com called it "an exemplary transparent overdrive" and noted the clean blend control the pedal lacks; it gave the whole collection 7 out of 10, praising the clear interface and accurate tones.
- Pedal of the Day described it as a precise recreation that ranges "from subtle edge to dynamic saturation" and keeps the character of your playing.
- Criticisms: Guitar.com's doubts were aimed at the bundle (five effects and one simple amp), so buying the drive alone avoids that issue.
