What it does
EHX POG is MixWave's officially licensed model of the Electro-Harmonix POG polyphonic octave generator, based on the original V1 POG from 2005. It tracks chords and arpeggios as well as single notes and blends several octave voices with the dry signal.
- Voices: separate level knobs for Dry Output, Sub Octave, +1 Octave and +2 Octave.
- Detuned voices: +1 Octave Detuned and +2 Octave Detuned add modulated, detuned copies for 12-string-like and layered textures.
- Polyphonic tracking: works on chords, fast arpeggios and single notes.
- LP Filter: a resonant low-pass filter on the octave voices, with three LPF Modes: the dry signal bypasses the filter (Mode 1), passes through it (Mode 2), or passes through it with more resonance (Mode 3).
- Input: sets the level going into the octave stage.
- Plugin extras: input and output filters and up to 8x oversampling.
A 14-day fully working trial is available.
When to use it
EHX POG is the better pick for stacking octaves on instruments: organ-like guitar, octave bass and 12-string or shimmer textures. Compared with Little AlterBoy and Graillon 3 it has no formant control and is not built for vocals; it blends several fixed octave voices with the dry sound instead of shifting one voice. Unlike Auto-Tune Pro 11 or Melodyne 5 it corrects nothing, so think of it as an effect, not a pitch editor. Its detuned voices and filter modes give it more sound-shaping than a basic octaver.
- Best for: organ-like guitar, octave-up leads, sub-octave bass and synth layers, and 12-string-style shimmer.
- Genres: rock, indie, ambient and electronic.
- Look elsewhere if: you want to shift or retune vocals or change formants; Little AlterBoy or Graillon 3 are better suited.
- Tip: blend in the +1 Octave Detuned voice for a 12-string effect.
