What it does

EHX Big Muff is MixWave's officially licensed model of the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff fuzz, made in collaboration with Electro-Harmonix. It puts three versions of the circuit in one plugin, built with "detailed component-level modeling" of the analog originals.

It is part of MixWave's EHX Classics Bundle. A fully working 14-day trial is available.

When to use it

EHX Big Muff is the pick when you want the specific Big Muff fuzz, with the developer and Electro-Harmonix behind the model, rather than a general distortion. Compared with Saturn 2 or Dist COLDFIRE, it has far fewer controls and no multiband or modulation options, but it gets the classic wall of sustain with three knobs. It is less extreme and less flexible than Devil-Loc Deluxe, and it is a single fuzz pedal model rather than a multi-stage sound-design distortion like Thermal. Having three circuit versions in one window makes it more useful than a single-variant fuzz, and on sale it costs far less than Saturn 2.
