What it does
Ashdown ABM EVO IV is MixWave's model of the Ashdown ABM-300-EVO IV bass head, made with Ashdown Engineering using component-level modelling. It covers the head's preamp, EQ and built-in tools, two Ashdown cabinets, and extra mix processing.
- Valve Drive Plus preamp: from clean and warm to fat overdrive.
- 9-band EQ: Bass, Middle and Treble controls plus six precision sliders.
- Compressor: the hardware's one-knob dynamic compressor for an even sound.
- Sub-harmonic generator: adds an octave below the notes you play, with its own sub level.
- Cabinets: an Ashdown 1x15 Compact with a custom 15" Blue Line speaker and an 8x10 with 10" Blue Line speakers, plus a switchable horn tweeter and an impulse response library.
- Microphones: 12 virtual microphones that can be placed around the speakers.
- Mix tools: an extra EQ and compressor that can sit before or after the amp for mix-ready results.
A 14-day fully working trial is available.
When to use it
Ashdown ABM EVO IV is the better pick when you want one specific, growly British bass head with its matching cabinets, set up quickly. Compared with AmpliTube 5 MAX, Guitar Rig 7 Pro and Helix Stadium Native, it offers only one bass amp, but goes deeper into it, with the hardware's compressor, sub-harmonic generator and 12 mic positions. Unlike Neural Amp Modeler, which can load captures of any bass amp, it models the whole head and its controls, so you can change the tone after recording. It also runs as a standalone app for practice.
- Best for: reamping bass DIs, growly driven bass and sub-heavy tones, and virtual basses such as MODO BASS or EZbass.
- Genres: rock, metal and pop.
- Look elsewhere if: you want many bass amps to choose from; AmpliTube 5 MAX has a wider range.
What producers say
Coverage is positive, though light on critical detail so far.
- Midi Audio Expert praised the preamp modelling, the 9-band EQ and the cabinet and mic options, and said it "works very well on virtual basses like EZbass and MODO BASS".
- Caveat: that review reads more like a feature overview than a critical test; it names no drawbacks and gives no score.
