Virelia by Mixland

Virelia is Mixland's flagship processor, combining a passive EQ, a PWM compressor and vacuum tube modeling in one dual-stage plugin for mixing and mastering.

The compressor blends feedforward and feedback detection and morphs between peak and RMS; it is $37.99 on sale (list $99.99).

Best for: Vocals, Mix Bus, Mastering, Drum Bus, Keys & Synths. Genres: all genres.

Keywords: PWM, tube, bus processing, mastering, feed-forward, feedback, glue, mix bus, mixing, vocals, inspired by, analog-sounding, clean, full mix, hardware emulation, smooth, 50s, auto-gain, drum bus, dual-mono, gentle, sidechain input, stereo-linked, vintage, wide.

What it does

Virelia is Mixland's two-stage tube channel: a reworked passive EQ and a PWM compressor in one analog-modeled engine. A review notes it is inspired by D.W. Fearn hardware, and Mixland pitches it for "harmonic bloom, low-end weight, and high-end smoothness."

The DSP is light enough for use on every track. It has a free 7-day fully working trial.

When to use it

Virelia is the better pick when you want a tube EQ and a smooth compressor in one window with real colour. Compared with the Scheps Omni Channel or SSL Native Channel Strip 2, it has fewer sections (no gate or de-esser) but a warmer, mastering-style EQ and adjustable tube distortion in each stage. Unlike the API Vision Channel Strip Collection, it is not a console strip; it plays more like a Pultec-style EQ feeding a clean bus compressor. At its sale price it is also far cheaper than most of the rated channel strips.

What producers say

The one review we read found it a flexible, mastering-grade strip, with only small complaints about the graphics.
