GoodMath by Metric Halo

GoodMath is a small Make Believe line plugin sold by Metric Halo that works as a gain stage, clipper and soft saturator.

It has presets and a resizable UI, and sells for $29 (regular $49).

Best for: Drums, Drum Bus, Bass, Mix Bus, Mastering. Genres: all genres.

Keywords: bus processing, bass, drums, utility, full mix, drum bus, mastering, mix bus, mixing, resizable UI, simple, single-band.

What it does

GoodMath is a small gain-staging utility from Metric Halo and Make Believe Studios. The developer calls it "a technique that I have utilized for years": a gain stage, a clipper and a soft saturator in one plugin, set by ear.

KVR lists a demo. It is also part of the Make Believe Bundle.

When to use it

GoodMath is a lean gain-staging tool rather than a full clipper. Compared with StandardCLIP and KClip 3 it has no choice of clip curves, no detailed oversampling options and no visual clip metering, so it is less suited to precise loudness work on a master. Unlike Free Clip 2, it costs money, but it adds three stacked gain stages and a soft saturator in one panel. Pick it if you already work in a Metric Halo or Make Believe chain and want quick, ear-driven level and peak control.
