What it does
MTuner is a free MeldaProduction tuner built on a frequency analyzer, meant mostly for guitars but usable with any instrument. It offers both a classic single-note tuner and a high-resolution polyphonic tuner to speed up tuning.
- Monophonic tuner: a classic single-note tuner for one string or note at a time.
- Polyphonic tuner: a high-resolution mode that reads several strings at once, so you can check a whole strum.
- Analyzer base: the tuner works from a frequency analyzer, with the developer's metering for input, output and loudness.
- Channel modes: mono, stereo, mid/side, separate channels, surround up to 8 channels and ambisonics up to 7th order.
- Interface: a resizable, stylable, GPU-accelerated interface that supports HiDPI and Retina displays at up to 100 fps.
MTuner is free, on its own or as part of MeldaProduction's MFreeFXBundle. Updates are free for life.

When to use it
MTuner is the better pick when you want a free in-DAW tuner that can also read a full chord. Compared with bx_tuner and GTR3 Tuner, its polyphonic mode is the main extra, though user reviews say that mode is less accurate than the single-note tuner. Unlike Melodyne 5 or Auto-Tune Pro 11, it only shows pitch and does nothing to correct it. One KVR reviewer found its interface bulky, which matters if you just want a quick check before a take.
- Best for: tuning guitar and bass before tracking, and quick pitch checks on any instrument.
- Genres: any style.
- Look elsewhere if: you need pitch correction rather than a tuner (Melodyne 5, Auto-Tune Pro 11), or a reliable polyphonic tuner, where a dedicated hardware polytuner may serve better.
- Tip: use the monophonic mode for final tuning; a KVR reviewer found its stabilization (up to 1000 ms) makes readings steady.
What producers say
User opinion is mixed: the monophonic tuner is liked, the polyphonic mode and the free-version nags less so.
- KVR users rate it 3 out of 5 from 2 reviews.
- Praised: a solid monophonic tuner with useful stabilization, a high-accuracy mode, and MIDI output that can send detected notes to a synth.
- Criticisms: the polyphonic tuner misreads notes and shows no numbers; one reviewer called the free version "not really free" because of purchase prompts, and found the UI bulky.
