MStereoExpander is a free M/S stereo expander from MeldaProduction for widening or narrowing the stereo field.

What it does

MStereoExpander is "a basic M/S stereo field correction." It widens or narrows a stereo signal, increasing or reducing the spatial differences between channels, while staying mono compatible.

Two expansion modes: expansion based on the actual samples or based on delay.
Width control: increase or reduce the clarity of the stereo field.
Mono compatible: the processing is designed to hold up when summed to mono.
Metering: input, output, stereo width, loudness and waveform meters.
Level safety: automatic gain compensation and a brickwall safety limiter.
Presets and comparison: A-H slots, A-D morphing on an X-Y pad, smart randomization with parameter locking and an online preset exchange.
Interface: a stylable, resizable, GPU-accelerated GUI with MIDI learn and 1x to 1024x upsampling.

MStereoExpander is free, as a standalone download or in MeldaProduction's MFreeFXBundle. Updates are free for life.

When to use it

MStereoExpander is a quick, free way to make an existing stereo part wider or narrower. Compared with Ozone Imager, also free, it gives you a choice between sample-based and delay-based expansion but keeps things to a single basic width adjustment. Unlike Polyverse Wider or MStereoGenerator, it is aimed at correcting a stereo field rather than building width from a mono source. MeldaProduction's own MStereoProcessor and MStereoSpread go much further when you need detailed control.

Best for: small width corrections on stereo synths, pads, overheads and buses.
Genres: any.
Look elsewhere if: you need per-band width or detailed stereo editing (MStereoProcessor, S1 Stereo Imager) or want to widen a mono source (MStereoGenerator or Wider).
