What it does

MRhythmizer is a sequenced effect that goes "from gating to glitching, repeating hits to scratching." Step sequencers control where playback jumps in time, as well as volume and filtering, to add motion to static parts.

Three sequencers: Time (playback position jumps, repeats and stutters), Volume (gating and envelope shapes) and Filter, which can run together for combined effects.
36 sequences: switch between up to 36 sequences per instance to build variations.
Sequence Graph: draw the curves directly; right-click options add curvature and smoothing for complex envelope shapes.
Scratching: scratch with a simple slider, or let a modulator do it automatically.
Modulation: LFOs, audio level followers, envelope generators, randomizers and pitch detectors can drive any parameter.
Live control: switch sequences from a MIDI keyboard, a pad controller or host automation, or let modulators switch them.

When to use it

MRhythmizer is a low-cost pick for sequenced gating, stutters and tape-style time jumps, with MIDI switching for live use. Compared with Effectrix2, it has far fewer effect types per step but costs much less and focuses on time, volume and filter sequences. Compared with Stutter Edit 2, it is less about one-gesture risers and buildups and more about drawn patterns you switch between. Computer Music noted that its built-in filter gives it an edge over Gross Beat, its closest rival. Infiltrator 2 goes much broader as a multi-effect.

Best for: glitches, stutters, gated patterns and scratch effects on loops, drums and vocals.
Genres: electronic, EDM, hip-hop, trap and pop.
Look elsewhere if: you want many effect types per step (Effectrix2), a resonant filter with drive and slopes, or performance-style stutter gestures (Stutter Edit 2).
Tip: map sequences to MIDI notes and play them from a keyboard to switch effects in real time.

What producers say

Computer Music found it fun, easy and well priced, with the basic filter and familiar look as the main drawbacks.

Computer Music (via MusicRadar, 2014) praised the flexible Sequence Graph, said the Scratch parameter "is fun to mess with" and liked the filter and price.
Criticisms: it called the tool "not exactly innovative", the filter lacks resonance, drive or slope options, and the standard Melda interface was "becoming rather visually tedious".
