What it does

MEqualizer is MeldaProduction's free 6-band EQ with a built-in analyzer and optional tube saturation. The developer pitches it as "extremely easy-to-use and powerful", with a vintage analogue colour on tap.

Bands and filters: 6 bands, each with a choice of peak, low-shelf, high-shelf, low-pass, high-pass, single-pole low- and high-pass, band-pass and notch. Frequency and Q are set by dragging on the EQ graph.
Tube saturation: an integrated tube saturation simulator with harmonics control, for analogue warmth and high-end sparkle.
Analyzer and sonogram: a spectrum analyzer and sonogram with peak detection, super-resolution, deharmonization and prefiltering.
Channel modes: mono and stereo, mid/side, separate left and right, mid-only or side-only, up to 8-channel surround and 7th-order ambisonics (64 channels).
Oversampling: adjustable from 1x to 1024x, with minimum-phase and linear-phase algorithms to avoid aliasing.
Melda platform: A to H setting switching, A to D morphing on an X-Y pad, dry/wet mix for parallel EQ, auto gain compensation, and a GPU-accelerated, resizable interface with HiDPI support.

When to use it

MEqualizer is a good free pick when you want mid/side EQ, a detailed analyzer and a touch of tube colour in one plugin. Compared with TDR VOS SlickEQ, it is more surgical and visual, with nine filter types and a sonogram, but it lacks SlickEQ's console-style character models. Unlike TDR Nova, it has no dynamic bands, and with only 6 bands it is smaller than Pro-Q 4, which also adds dynamic and linear-phase modes and many more bands for a paid price. Its surround and ambisonics support is unusual for a free EQ.

Best for: everyday tonal shaping, mid/side tweaks on buses and masters, and adding light saturation at no cost.
Genres: any style.
Look elsewhere if: you need more than 6 bands or dynamic EQ (TDR Nova free, or Pro-Q 4), or steeper high- and low-pass slopes than the 6 and 12 dB a KVR user reported.
Tip: turn down the dry/wet control to use it as a parallel EQ, a use the KVR reviewer singled out.

What producers say

The few user opinions found see it as a solid free M/S EQ held back by its band count and some fiddly controls.

KVR user (1 review, 4 out of 5, 2022, v15.01) praised the M/S and L/R modes, harmonics per band, saturation, dry/wet and auto gain, noting "Free M/S Equalizer are not easy to find."
Criticisms: only 6 bands, band values that are "too light and small", high- and low-pass slopes of only 6 and 12 dB, a solo function that mutes other filters rather than isolating one band, and some visual features locked unless you pay to upgrade.
