NR800 Noise Reduction by McDSP

A real-time, eight-band noise reduction processor for music, post-production and live sound, with steep high- and low-pass pre-filters.

It works with zero latency and is designed to avoid the chirping artifacts of aggressive noise reduction, so it can be used on dialog, field recordings and mic bleed.

Best for: Vocals, Acoustic Instruments, Guitars, Drums. Genres: all genres.

Keywords: repair, dialogue, field recordings, low latency, live performance, post-production, multi-band, drums, zero-latency, corrective, mixing, vocals.

What it does

The NR800 is McDSP's real-time noise reduction processor "for music production, post-production, and live sound." It is aimed at cleaning up dialog, field recordings, microphone bleed and general restoration, without chirping artifacts even at strong settings.

The current v7 has zero internal latency and can be used in real time or as AudioSuite.

When to use it

The NR800 is the pick for a simple, zero-latency multiband denoiser that can run live on a track or in a live sound rig, with band controls that are fast to set by ear. It is lighter than iZotope RX 12 and Waves Clarity Vx, the heavier, AI-assisted options on the site for dialog and restoration, and it uses bands rather than the noise-profile approach of Waves X-Noise and Z-Noise. Compared with McDSP's own NF575 Noise Filter, which targets hum and tonal noise, it is a general multiband denoiser.

What producers say

The main review found it very effective and good value, with no real complaints.
