What it does

The AE400 is a four-band EQ in which each band can be fixed or "active", responding to the level of the signal or a side-chain.

Bands: four fully overlapping bands, each with selectable EQ modes and its own bypass.
Active response: an active EQ ratio control sets how strongly a band reacts to the signal.
Side-chain: side-chain input to trigger the active responses.
Practical: metering and plot display, zero latency, double precision, mono and stereo versions.

When to use it

A dynamic EQ for cases such as taming a harsh region only when it gets loud. It covers similar ground to TDR Nova and Waves F6 in the rated list, with fewer bands than the AE600. Best when four bands are enough and you want to keep CPU and the interface simple.
