CARBON Q by Mastering The Mix

CARBON Q is a connected EQ and level-balancing system, with a MIX instance on the master and agents on vocal, music, drum and bass tracks, all controlled from one window.

It can match presets to reference tracks and costs £59 (about $78.16), on sale for £41.30 (about $54.71).

Best for: Vocals, Drums, Bass, Mix Bus. Genres: all genres.

Keywords: vocals, bass, drums, auto-gain, dynamic, full mix, linear-phase, samples & loops, beginner-friendly, bus processing, high latency, mid/side, mix bus, mixing, reference & monitoring.

What it does

CARBON Q is a connected EQ that works across a whole session. A MIX instance on the master talks to agent instances on vocal, music, drum and bass buses, so you can "set the EQ and volume balance" of all of them from one window.

A free trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee are offered.

When to use it

CARBON Q is the pick when the problem is balance between vocals, music, drums and bass, not one track. Compared with Pro-Q 4 or TDR Nova, it gives up precise per-band surgery for a view of the whole mix and reference-based presets. Unlike Mastering The Mix's REFERENCE 3, which shows how your mix differs from a reference, it applies EQ and level changes to your buses. It is closer in idea to bloom's broad tone shaping than to a parametric EQ, but works on four stems at once. It needs your session grouped into those four buses, and its 41 ms latency rules out live monitoring.

What producers say

Launch coverage likes the idea of a whole-mix EQ but notes that real-world tests of the stem separation are still to come.
