What it does
TG100 Reverb is Martinic's model of the reverb section of the Yamaha TG100, an early-90s MIDI tone generator. The developer pitches it for moments "when a modern reverb feels too smooth, too large, or too anonymous."
- Eight types: Hall 1 and 2, Room 1 and 2, Plate 1 and 2, and Delay 1 and 2.
- Early reflections and pre-delay: part of the reverb model, shaping the start of each tail.
- Damping: high-frequency damping to soften and darken the top end of the tail.
- Decay and level: adjustable reverb decay time and output level.
- Send and mix: a global send level plus a dry/wet mix, so it works as an insert or on a bus.
- Signal path: mono in, stereo out.
- Presets: 16 presets, 8 of them taken from the original TG100 sound module.
The current version is 1.0.0.
When to use it
TG100 Reverb is a cheap, simple way to get the grainier, smaller sound of early-90s budget digital hardware, with no attempt at lush, modern tails. Compared with Valhalla VintageVerb, it has far fewer modes and controls and covers a later, cheaper era of gear, but it costs half as much. Unlike Relab REV6000 or LX480, it does not recreate a high-end studio unit; it recreates the built-in reverb of an early-90s MIDI sound module. Next to FabFilter Pro-R 2 it has no EQ or visual feedback at all. Choose it for authentic period colour, not for a main mix reverb.
- Best for: retro synths and drums, 90s MIDI-module and game-music mixes, and lo-fi textures.
- Genres: lo-fi, chiptune and game music, electronic and retro pop.
- Look elsewhere if: you want lush, high-end reverb tails; VintageVerb or Seventh Heaven go much further.
