Keywords: synths, chorus, flanger, phaser, preset-driven, electric guitar, keys, spacious, tempo-synced, wide, creative, mixing, ping-pong, sound design, vocals.

What it does

AXFX is Martinic's eight-unit effects rack, which the developer calls "the ultimate sound shaper." It takes the post-synth effects section of a synth and makes it a standalone plugin you can put on any track.

Compressor: attack, release, threshold, ratio and makeup gain.
Chorus: rate, depth and width, with tempo sync.
Flanger and Phaser: rate, depth, feedback and width on each, both with tempo sync.
Delay: time, pan for ping-pong repeats, feedback, a tone filter and tempo sync.
Reverb: pre-delay, decay time, a tone filter, damping and width.
EQ and Distortion: a 3-band EQ whose middle band has bandwidth control, and a distortion with drive, tone and level.
Mix and routing: each unit has its own mix dial, and the eight units can be placed in any order.

Version 1.1.4 includes over 100 presets by sound designers such as Daniel Stawczyk, Charis Linos and Solidtrax.

When to use it

AXFX is a compact, synth-style chain of eight classic effects with simple controls and free ordering, made for adding finishing colour rather than deep sound design. Compared with Soundtoys Effect Rack, its units are plainer and less characterful, but it also includes a compressor and an EQ in the same chain. Unlike Kilohearts Multipass, it has no multiband splitting or modular effect choice; the eight units are fixed. It is far less wild than Infiltrator 2, with no sequencing or modulation of the effects. It is best value if you want one familiar strip of chorus, delay, reverb and drive on hand.

Best for: quick effect chains on synths, keys and guitars, and adding chorus, delay and reverb in one window.
Genres: electronic, synth-pop, pop and ambient.
Look elsewhere if: you want modulated or sequenced effects (Infiltrator 2, Effectrix2) or multiband processing (Multipass).
