Metallurgy: Thrash by Line 6

A Line 6 amp and effects plugin built for thrash, with four HX-derived amp models, cabinets, mics and a set of period-appropriate pedals.

Its amps are modeled on a Roland JC-120, Mesa/Boogie Mark IV, Friedman BE-100 and Diezel VH4, aimed at tight, mid-scooped rhythm tones.

Best for: Guitars. Genres: Metal, Rock & Indie.

Keywords: electric guitar, tight, aggressive, hardware emulation, 70s, tracking, classic, 80s, clean, digital classic, impulse-response based, room mics, set-and-forget, simple, skeuomorphic, spring, utility, vintage.

What it does

Metallurgy: Thrash is the thrash-focused title in Line 6's Metallurgy series. Line 6 says it "focuses on the tight, mid-scooped, hyper-aggressive tones deployed by thrash guitarists."

All three Metallurgy plugins support sample rates of 44.1 to 96 kHz and have a fully working 15-day trial. They are also sold together as the Metallurgy Collection.

When to use it

Metallurgy: Thrash covers classic metal rhythm tones, as do Neural DSP's Fortin Cali Suite and Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ Suite and Overloud's THU Metal, and Helix Native holds its same HX models among many more. Pick Metallurgy: Thrash if you want a Mark IV, BE-100 and VH4 in one small, preset-friendly plugin with overdrive boosts and double tracking already in place.

What producers say

Reviewers found the Thrash amps tight and fun to play; forum users mostly compare it with Helix Native.
