What it does
LANDR Horizon is a hybrid string synthesizer that layers recorded strings with analog-style synthesis. LANDR pitches it at "cinematic pads and evolving textures" that are ready to sit in a mix.
- Four-layer engine: blends organic string sources with synth layers; the 30 sound sources were built from sampled cellos and other bowed acoustic instruments.
- Morph control: sweeps the overall tone from bright to dark in real time, so one knob reshapes a pad as it plays.
- Space processors: Lusher and Harmonic Delay place the sound in a wider, deeper stereo field.
- Randomizer: generates new spatial settings when you want a fresh atmosphere without editing by hand.
- Sub module: a dedicated low-end layer with selectable waveforms, a Drive control, and a Motion knob for rhythmic pulsing in the bass.
- Mix tools: a glue compressor plus global tone and filter controls at the end of the chain.
- Content: 150 factory presets.
Horizon is included in LANDR Studio subscriptions and can also be bought on its own; the product page does not show the single-plugin price, and it does not mention a trial.
When to use it
Horizon is the quicker, narrower pick for hybrid string pads: one Morph knob, a sub layer and built-in space effects get you a usable swell in seconds. Compared with Omnisphere 3, it has a tiny library and engine, but it costs far less. Pigments 7 can build string-like pads from scratch with much deeper modulation, while Horizon starts from real bowed recordings and keeps the editing simple. Like Arturia's Augmented STRINGS, it blends string recordings with synthesis, but it is a smaller, preset-led instrument. It makes most sense for LANDR Studio subscribers, who already have it.
- Best for: evolving string pads, swells and atmospheric beds under pop and electronic tracks.
- Genres: ambient, cinematic, electronic and pop.
- Look elsewhere if: you need realistic orchestral strings (a library such as BBC Symphony Orchestra Core fits better) or deep sound design (Pigments 7 or Omnisphere 3).
