What it does

LANDR Composer is a MIDI generator that writes chords, melodies, basslines and arpeggios for you, then lets you edit them and drag them into your DAW. The developer pitches it as a way to "break through creative barriers" without needing music theory.

Chord generation: assistive chord progressions that you can create, tweak and refine, with no theory knowledge needed.
Melody, bass and arps: smart MIDI generation for each part.
Modifiers: customisable settings such as polyphony and humanisation shape how each generated part plays.
Piano roll: edit the generated MIDI inside the plugin, synced to the DAW.
Built-in sounds: over a hundred preset sounds in categories such as Bass, Keys, Lead and Pad, so you can hear ideas without loading other instruments.
Scenes and song mode: organise ideas into scenes and chain them into a longer song structure.
Drag and drop: drag the finished MIDI straight onto a DAW track.

It is included in LANDR Studio subscriptions and can be bought on its own. No free trial is mentioned.

When to use it

LANDR Composer is the better pick when you want a whole sketch, with chords, bass, melody and arps playing on built-in sounds, from one window. Compared with Scaler, which is built around scales, chord sets and voicings for writers who want theory help, it leans on generated phrases and asks less of you. Compared with Captain Chords and the other Captain Plugins, it keeps all parts in a single plugin rather than splitting them across tools. It is not an analysis tool like Insight 2 or SPAN, the rated utilities here; it writes MIDI rather than measuring audio. The trade-off is control: it suits fast starting points more than detailed composing.

Best for: beat makers and beginners who want quick chord, bass and melody ideas to build a track from.
Genres: pop, hip-hop, R&B and electronic, or any style that starts from a loop.
Look elsewhere if: you want to import and develop your own MIDI or learn the theory behind your chords; Scaler gives more control there.

What producers say

User feedback is mixed: some find it a fun, fast source of ideas, others call it basic and unstable.

Sweetwater users rate it 3.8 out of 5 from 4 reviews; one called it a "quick inspiration machine/musical notepad" and another found the phrases "incredibly musical".
Criticisms: one buyer said it "cannot import your own midi" like the earlier Orb version and made basic melodies; others reported DAW crashes, no manual and a high price.
