What it does

The Amplified Instrument Processor (AIP) is a full channel strip that Dan Korneff built around his own way of mixing electric guitars. It targets the usual problems of amplified sources, such as harsh upper mids and loose lows, but the developer pitches it for vocals, keys and the mix bus too.

The current version is 1.4.0, with lifetime updates.

When to use it

The AIP is the better pick when the source is an amplified guitar: its midrange notch and low-end dynamic control go straight at the problems that make distorted guitars hard to place. Compared with Neutron 5 or Scheps Omni Channel it is less general-purpose and has no assistant or multiband tools, but it gets guitars sitting faster with fewer moves. Against SSL Native Channel Strip 2 it trades a console-style workflow for guitar-specific sections and tube-style EQ colour. It costs more than most single-purpose guitar tools, so it pays off mainly for people who mix a lot of guitars.
