What it does

Ting is Klevgrand's percussion instrument made from everyday objects, sold with the line "Appreciate the little tings in life." The developer pitches it as a creative substitute for ordinary drum and percussion instruments.

Sounds: 28 multi-sampled percussive sounds, about 1,500 samples in all, from things like silverware, a sofa, a toy drum and car keys.
12 slots: pick 12 of the 28 sounds to build a kit.
Per-sound control: pan, pitch, dynamics, and room and reverb sends for each slot.
Space: convolution room ambience plus an algorithmic reverb, giving two parallel spaces.
Tone and glue: a built-in EQ and a single-control master compressor.
Presets: a preset manager with factory presets.

The current version is 1.1.2. The free demo is the full version with occasional audio dropouts.

When to use it

Ting is a cheap, single-purpose box of quirky object percussion for adding small organic details to beats and arrangements. Compared with XO or Battery 4, it is far narrower: a fixed set of 28 sounds rather than a sampler for your own library, but with room, reverb and compression already set up for them. Unlike EZdrummer 3, it does not aim at a drum kit or grooves at all. At its sale price it costs a fraction of any of those.

Best for: organic top-line percussion, clicks and ticks layered over a beat.
Genres: pop, lo-fi, ambient, cinematic and electronic.
Look elsewhere if: you want to load your own samples; Battery 4 or XO do that.
