Pana is a natural panner from Klevgrand that adds a head-size micro-delay and a low-pass filter on the opposite channel, like hearing with two ears.

A bass crossover keeps low frequencies centred, with a mono check and correlation meter, for $39.99.

Best for: Vocals, Guitars, Drums, Keys & Synths, Acoustic Instruments. Genres: all genres.

Keywords: auto-pan, metering, mono-compatible, multi-band, reference & monitoring, organic, macro controls, single knob, bass, beginner-friendly, drums, heavy, minimal controls, mixing, vocals.

What it does

Pana is Klevgrand's "Natural Panner", described as "A pan knob for the human ear." Instead of only changing the level between left and right, it places a sound using the small time and tone differences our ears use to locate sources, aiming for more natural positioning than a standard pan pot.

The current version is 1.0.2. The free demo is the full version with occasional audio dropouts.

When to use it

Pana is a better pick than a whole-mix imager when the job is placing one track at a time: it replaces a channel's pan knob with time, tone and level cues, where Waves S1 and bx_stereomaker adjust the width of a whole stereo image. Compared with Polyverse Wider, it does not create width from a mono source; it moves a source to one spot, more like a natural listening position. Unlike Ozone Imager, which works on bands of a whole mix, it is built around a single macro pan knob for one source. The bass crossover and mono button make it safer than a plain Haas-style delay trick, which can smear low end and cancel in mono.

What producers say

Pana has had little coverage; the few user comments found agree it pans naturally but show less enthusiasm than for Klevgrand's Haaze 2.
