What it does

Kilohearts describes Compactor as bringing surgical sidechain ducking to your toolbox in one easy plugin. It can also be used as a distortion effect.

Timing: Attack, Hold, Release and Threshold.
Detection modes: Peak, ISP (inter-sample peak) or RMS.
Range and Stereo: set how far the signal is pushed down and how the channels are linked.
Sidechain: an optional secondary input drives the ducking.

It's free and works as a plugin or a Snapin.

When to use it

A free tool for sidechain ducking, such as pulling a bass or pad out of the way of a kick, and for fast peak-limiting jobs. It's a utility, not a colourful character compressor like the ones in the compressor ratings, so pair it with something else if you want tone. Handy for EDM, pop and hip-hop production.
