What it does
KC1 is Kiive Audio's tube opto compressor, built for smooth, warm compression that the developer calls "insanely musical sounding." Kiive only says it is inspired by "a legendary studio staple"; reviewers and buyers identify it as an emulation of the Tube-Tech CL 1B.
- Opto tube compression: an optical gain stage paired with tube-style amplification, for smooth gain reduction that stays pleasant when pushed hard.
- Core controls: threshold, ratio and gain in a simple, familiar layout that is quick to set.
- Timing: manual attack and release, fixed timing, or a combined mode that mixes the two, as on the CL 1B.
- Blend: a dry/wet control for parallel compression inside the plugin.
- Stereo modes: stereo, mono and mid/side processing.
- Sidechain and color: a sidechain filter, plus a THD control that sets how much tube saturation and grit is added.
- Workflow: input and output level controls, switchable input/output metering, oversampling and factory presets.
It has free updates for life. A 14-day, fully working trial needs no card.

When to use it
KC1 is the pick if you want CL 1B-style tube opto compression with more modern routing than the hardware offers. Compared with the Teletronix LA-2A Leveler Collection and the Waves CLA-2A, it gives you real attack and release control, a ratio knob and mid/side mode, where those opto levelers rely on fixed program-dependent timing. Compared with Softube's Tube-Tech CL 1B, it adds a dry blend, a THD saturation control and oversampling. It is also a cheaper buy than most licensed emulations.
- Best for: lead vocals, bass, acoustic guitar and gentle mix bus glue.
- Genres: pop, rock, R&B, singer-songwriter and acoustic styles.
- Look elsewhere if: you need fast, aggressive peak control; a FET design like the 1176 Classic Limiter Collection or CLA-76 suits that better.
- Tip: the digitalfilms reviewer pushes it harder on voice tracks and uses it subtly on the mix bus, at a 2:1 ratio or lower, for glue.
What producers say
The one in-depth review we read is positive, calling it a go-to compressor for smooth, saturated compression.
- digitalfilms (Oliver Peters, 2024) called it "one of the standard plugins" he reaches for, with "smooth or silky" compression that can be pushed hard without harshness.
- Praised: a simple, proven layout that works with "little or no guesswork" and saturation that adds grit "in a very pleasant way" on vocals, guitars and the mix bus.
