What it does
Golden58 is a stereo tube preamp and saturator made by Kiive Audio with AudioScape Engineering. It recreates AudioScape's limited-run two-channel preamp built around the 5879 tube, the US military equivalent of the EF86, so you get that warmth without maintaining tubes.
- Circuit: six 5879 tubes and four NOS transformers per unit in the original hardware.
- Gain: 56 dB of gain range, from clean lift to dense, driven tone.
- Voice switch: shapes the character across the saturation range and includes a 40 Hz cut for rumble.
- Polarity switch: flips the phase, useful when combining mics.
- Auto-Gain: holds the output level steady while you push the drive, so you hear the saturation and not just a louder signal.
- Output trims: fine control over how much harmonic saturation reaches the output.
There are no subscriptions, updates are free for life, and a 14-day fully working trial needs no card.

When to use it
Golden58 is the pick when you want one specific tube preamp color rather than a general saturation toolbox. Compared with Decapitator it has fewer styles and no tone or punish controls, but its Auto-Gain makes level-matched comparisons easy. It is more focused than Black Box HG-2, which mixes tube and transformer stages with more ways to shape the harmonics. Next to Klanghelm IVGI it costs more and is a fixed, single-flavor tube stage rather than a flexible budget drive.
- Best for: subtle warmth on vocals and acoustic sources, extra low-end thickness on drums, and denser drive on guitars.
- Genres: rock, soul, indie, hip-hop and acoustic styles.
- Look elsewhere if: you need EQ or compression alongside the preamp (a channel strip such as Filkchannel Strip MK2) or tape color (Ampex ATR-102).
- Tip: engage the voice switch on vocals to cut low rumble while adding warmth.
