Avalon AD2055 by Kazrog

Avalon AD2055 is Kazrog's official emulation of Avalon Design's Class A parametric equalizer, pairing passive low and high bands with two active, sweepable mid bands.

It is the more creative of Kazrog's two Avalon EQs, with continuous Q and wide gain ranges, and it adds no distortion, like the hardware.

Best for: Mix Bus, Bass, Drum Bus, Keys & Synths, Mastering. Genres: all genres.

Keywords: hardware emulation, mastering, bass, bus processing, mixing, creative, dual-mono, full mix, synths, transparent, wide, 90s, A/B compare, drum bus, drums, electric guitar, gentle, mix bus, built-in mix knob, musical, organic, oversampling, static, stereo-linked.

What it does

The AD2055 plugin recreates Avalon Design's AD 2055 Class A Equalizer, a discrete, transformerless program EQ from the mid-1990s. Kazrog built it with Avalon Design, and it comes with the AD2077 in the Avalon EQ Bundle.

The free demo drops to silence at random intervals and disables preset saving. The AD2055 is sold with the AD2077 in the Avalon EQ Bundle.

When to use it

The AD2055 is a clean, broad-stroke program EQ, comparable in role to Universal Audio's Pultec Passive EQ Collection or Manley Massive Passive EQ but without their tube coloration. Universal Audio's Avalon VT-737 Tube Channel Strip includes an Avalon-style EQ inside a full channel strip; pick the AD2055 when you only want the EQ, in stereo or dual mono, for mixing or bus work.

What producers say

Reviewers like its musical, transparent curves; one buyer argued it sounds no different from a matched digital EQ.
