What it does

Polyscape Analog is a layered synth from Karanyi Sounds, described by the developer as a "pad-focused instrument built from rare vintage synths." It runs on the multi-layer engine of Polyscape Nova and is aimed at ambient scores, retro textures and cinematic soundscapes.

The current version is 1.0.0. The developer and Plugin Boutique both sell it, and a 7-day trial is available.

When to use it

Polyscape Analog is the pick for fast, vintage-flavoured pads and textures without programming a synth from scratch: you stack layers, add effects and hit the randomizer. Compared with u-he Diva or Arturia CS-80 V, it offers much less synthesis depth, since you combine prepared sources instead of shaping oscillators and filters. Compared with Omnisphere 3, it is a far smaller and cheaper layering instrument with a narrower focus on analog pads. Compared with Pigments 7, it has one simple workflow rather than several engines, which makes it quicker but less versatile.
