What it does
Matra is a dual delay for rhythmic echoes, textures and washed-out ambience. The developer describes it as "an echo-effect inspired by analog hardware", named after Hungary's Matra Mountains.
- Dual delay engine: two separate delay processors, each with its own timing and feedback, plus harmonic algorithms that change the shimmer and depth of the repeats.
- Spread and Wash: Spread is a delay-on-delay feature, and the Wash control blends reverb and grains into the echoes.
- Resonant filters: two resonant filters with a dedicated filter LFO, plus a global tone EQ and a multimode filter.
- Distortion: two units, heavy distortion and saturation, running with 8x oversampling.
- Movement and width: a Wow/Chorus effect for vintage pitch wobble and a stereo imaging control.
- Two panels: a simple front panel for tempo, feedback and spread, and a back Tweak panel with deeper timing, feedback, filter and saturation settings.
- Workflow: a Smart Random button, a feedback kill switch, dry/wet mix, MIDI-learnable controls, GUI scaling from 100% to 125%, and 40 artist presets.
The current version is 1.0.0. The developer's store sells the Plus edition; it adds the Abstract UI skin and two 30-preset packs, Designer Delays and Retro Dub Delays. Plugin Boutique also lists the standard edition. A 7-day trial is available.

When to use it
Matra is the better pick when you want the delay to become part of the sound, not just repeat it. Compared with EchoBoy and Timeless 3, it has far fewer echo styles and less precise modulation routing, but its resonant filters, distortion and Wash blend turn repeats into textures in a few moves. It is closer in spirit to Comeback Kid, with a similar quick, character-first workflow, but Matra leans further into ambience and grainy washes. Unlike ValhallaDelay, it does not model specific tape, BBD or digital units in separate modes. It is not the tool for clean slapback or exact tape echo.
- Best for: filtered, distorted and washed-out echoes on vocals, synths, keys and guitars, and quick ambient textures.
- Genres: electronic, ambient, cinematic, pop and lo-fi.
- Look elsewhere if: you need a clean, exact studio delay or a faithful tape or analog emulation; EchoBoy or Timeless 3 cover more ground.
What producers say
Users see it as an inspiring, good-value texture delay, with a few calling it harsh or not distinctive enough.
- Plugin Boutique users rate it 4.6 out of 5 from 417 ratings, praising its warm tape sounds, atmospheric effects, width and simple, clean interface.
- Bedroom Producers Blog called the interface "slick and clean" with ample room for tweaking, and noted it can do subtle ambience as well as huge washes.
- Criticisms: some buyers found it uninspiring in a crowded market, said it can sound harsh without further processing, and felt the design complicates simple tasks.
