K7D by Imaginando

K7D is a tape-style delay from Imaginando that models warmth, wow, flutter and saturation that builds up with each repeat.

It adds feedback filters, ping-pong and width controls, MIDI key-follow for the delay time and feedback up to 200%, for €39 (about $44).

Best for: Guitars, Vocals, Keys & Synths, Sound Design. Genres: all genres.

Keywords: tape, warm, tape echo, keys, wide, wobble, flutter, MIDI-controllable, ping-pong, vocals, dub, lo-fi, electric guitar, samples & loops, synths, beginner-friendly, gentle, minimal controls, mixing, modern, rent-to-own, simple, smooth, sound design, tempo-synced.

What it does

K7D is Imaginando's tape delay. It aims to recreate "the warmth, motion and gentle degradation of real tape echo" through separate, adjustable stages, and adds modern modulation and MIDI tracking on top.

It is sold outright or rent-to-own, with a 14-day refund guarantee; a bundle with DLYM and GRFX is also available. The demo never expires, but plays a noise burst every 60 seconds and disables saving until you buy a license.

When to use it

K7D is the better pick for a cheap, playable tape delay that rewards pushing the feedback. Unlike EchoBoy, it does not model a range of specific echo units, but at a fraction of the price it covers the warm, wobbly, degrading repeats most people want from tape. Compared with Galaxy Tape Echo and Arturia's Delay TAPE-201, which recreate the Roland Space Echo closely, K7D is less tied to one machine and adds Keyboard Follow and a multi-shape LFO. Its 200% feedback makes it easy to tip into self-oscillation for dub throws and drones.

What producers say

Early reviews were warm about the sound and the price; the main wish was for more control over tape condition.
