ZeroComp by HoRNet

ZeroComp is an automatic compressor from HoRNet that analyzes the crest factor of the signal and sets its own parameters.

You pick one of three models (Smooth, Tight or Fat) and set the amount from 0 to 100%. It costs about $28.

Best for: Vocals, Drums, Bass, Guitars, Keys & Synths. Genres: all genres.

Keywords: vocals, bus processing, drums, bass, smooth, tracking, mastering, metering, mix bus, rap vocals, A/B compare, acoustic guitar, aggressive, beginner-friendly, fat, glue, mixing, musical, pumping, punchy, single-band, thick, tight, transparent.

What it does

ZeroComp is HoRNet's "new concept of intelligent auto compression". It analyzes the track's crest factor in real time and sets threshold, ratio, attack, release, knee and makeup gain itself, leaving you a few broad controls.

Version 1.0.2 is also part of the ZeroBundle. The free demo has no functional limits, and HoRNet offers a 15-day money-back guarantee.

When to use it

ZeroComp is the better pick when you want decent compression on many tracks quickly and don't want to set attack and release by hand. Compared with Pro-C 3 or TDR Kotelnikov, it gives up almost all manual control, but it calibrates itself to each source and its three models cover vocals, drums and bass without presets. Unlike CLA-76 or the LA-2A Leveler Collection, it doesn't copy one piece of hardware; the Fat model and the Distortion control are its only route to colour. Compared with MJUC, it is simpler and more hands-off, with less vintage character.
