SAMP
by HoRNet · Channel Strip · Dolby Atmos virtual master bus
Not rated yet
SAMP gives Dolby Atmos mixes a virtual master bus: you place it on each track, and up to 160 instances work together.
Each instance has an EQ based on TotalEQ, a compressor based on SyncPressor and a clipper and limiter based on Magnus MK2, for about $68.12.
Best for: Mix Bus, Mastering. Genres: all genres.
Keywords: bus processing, mastering, mix bus, full mix, glue, metering, oversampling, resizable UI, sidechain input, tempo-synced.
What it does
SAMP is HoRNet's "virtual master bus" for Dolby Atmos. In an Atmos mix there is no single stereo bus to put a mastering chain on, so SAMP goes on each bed and object track instead, and the instances work together as one bus processor.
- Equalizer: up to six parametric bands, based on HoRNet's TotalEQ.
- Compressor: based on SyncPressor, with attack and release times that can sync to the DAW tempo.
- Clipper and limiter: taken from Magnus MK2, with a selectable sidechain for the compressor and limiter.
- Routing and gain: freely selectable module order, input and output gain sliders, bypass per module and a global bypass.
- Linked instances: the instances talk to each other, up to 160 of them, with an input meter for each and track names read from the DAW (not in the VST2 format).
- Quality and interface: intelligent oversampling up to 4x and a resizable, hardware-accelerated vector interface, with online help.
Version 1.3.0 added support for 7.1.4 Atmos setups. The demo is fully functional but drops out to silence now and then, cannot save settings and ignores host automation, and purchases have a 15-day money-back guarantee.
When to use it
SAMP is a niche tool: it is the pick when you mix in Dolby Atmos and want the same master-style EQ, compression and limiting applied to every bed and object, not just one bus. Compared with Neutron 5 or Scheps Omni Channel, it has far fewer modules, but its instances are linked and built around an immersive session. Unlike a multichannel limiter such as Pro-L 2 placed on one bed, it can reach objects that bypass the bed. Compared with a stereo mastering chain like Ozone 12, it is much simpler and is not meant for stereo work at all.
- Best for: Dolby Atmos and other immersive mixes that need glue, peak control and loudness across many tracks.
- Genres: all.
- Look elsewhere if: you only mix in stereo; a normal mix bus chain with Pro-L 2 or Ozone 12 is simpler. For a full channel strip on single tracks, Neutron 5 does more.
