What it does

Multicomp Plus MK2 is HoRNet's "high quality versatile visual compressor": several classic compressor types in one plugin, with a scrolling display that shows what each one is doing.

Models: VCA (general purpose), FET (fast and aggressive), OPTO (redesigned for accuracy), Console4K (the SSL 4K channel compressor) and VCA160 (the dbx 160), plus an expander based on the VCA model.
Core controls: threshold, ratio, attack, release, input and output gain, and a dry/wet knob for parallel compression with adaptive makeup gain.
Automation helpers: auto threshold to reach a target gain reduction, auto makeup gain, and automatic input/output adjustment when switching models.
Analog colour: saturation based on HoRNet's AnalogStage, with adjustable amount, an optional input transformer and a separate hiss control.
Sidechain: external sidechain input, with high-pass and low-pass filters adjustable from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
Display: a scrolling waveform of input, output and gain reduction, and a RealGR meter with peak hold.
Oversampling: 2x or 4x, or an Auto setting that picks the best value for each model.

Version 2.1.3 fixed a VST3 stereo issue. The demo is fully functional but drops to silence now and then, cannot save settings and ignores host automation.

When to use it

Multicomp Plus MK2 is the better pick when you want to try several compressor characters on a track without swapping plugins, and to see the result on a waveform. Compared with Pro-C 3, it has fewer styles and a simpler display, but it adds hiss and transformer colour and costs much less. Unlike The Glue, which is built around one bus compressor sound, or the 1176 Classic Limiter Collection, which models one FET unit in depth, it covers VCA, FET, opto, 4K and 160 types in one window. Its auto threshold and auto makeup gain make it quicker to get a usable setting than most single-unit emulations.

Best for: comparing compressor types on vocals, drums and bass, parallel compression, and learning how each type reacts by watching the display.
Genres: all.
Look elsewhere if: you want a detailed model of one specific vintage unit (the 1176 or LA-2A Collections) or the most transparent, deeply featured digital compressor (Pro-C 3).
