Keywords: op-amp, auto-gain, single knob, free, metering, bright, bus processing, full mix, mixing, oversampling, warm, beginner-friendly, dark, enhancement, harsh, mastering, minimal controls, mix bus, static, vocals.
What it does
Angle is HoRNet's free tilt EQ, a "compact and incredibly useful tone shaping plugin". One knob tips the whole spectrum around a fixed point, making a track darker or brighter in a single move.
- Tilt control: the Angle knob ranges from -18 dB to +18 dB, cutting one end of the spectrum as it boosts the other.
- Fixed pivot: the tilt turns around 650 Hz, and the pivot cannot be moved.
- OpAmp switch: an analogue mode based on the op-amp model from HoRNet's AnalogStage, which adds harmonics to warm up the signal.
- Gain and auto gain: input and output level controls, each with an Auto Gain switch, so a tilt doesn't change the overall level.
- Metering: input and output peak meters.
- Oversampling: an automatic oversampling system to keep aliasing down, plus a bypass button.
It is free.
When to use it
Angle is a free, very fast way to change the overall tone of a track or bus with one knob. Compared with Tonelux Tilt EQ, it offers similar one-knob shaping but adds an op-amp saturation mode and auto gain, though its pivot is fixed at 650 Hz. Pro-Q 4's tilt shelf lets you move the pivot and set the slope, but takes more steps. Unlike a Pultec-style EQ such as the Pultec Passive EQ Collection, it does not shape the lows and highs separately; it moves the whole balance at once.
- Best for: quick brightness or warmth changes on buses, stems, masters and dull or harsh tracks.
- Genres: any.
- Look elsewhere if: you need a movable pivot (Pro-Q 4's tilt shelf).
- Tip: engage the OpAmp switch to add a little harmonic warmth along with the tilt.
What producers say
Seen as a handy free tool if you don't already own a tilt EQ, with early stability issues fixed quickly.
- Bedroom Producers Blog (2017) called it "a neat little mixing tool" and liked the analogue mode for warming up a mix; it noted the pivot can't be moved.
- KVR users rate it 4 out of 5 from 1 review: the reviewer (Cubase) hit crashes and stereo problems in version 1.0.0, but found 1.0.1 worked well with no crashes.
