ADDA
by HoRNet · Distortion · Vintage AD/DA converter bitcrusher

ADDA emulates the converters in vintage digital gear, reducing bit depth from 24 down to 4 bits and resampling from 44.1 kHz down to 4 kHz.
Analog input and output stages, hiss, pre- and de-emphasis filters and four interpolation modes shape the character. It costs €11.99 (about $13.61).
Best for: Drums, Keys & Synths, Vocals, Sound Design. Genres: Lo-Fi, Hip-Hop & Trap, Electronic & EDM.
Keywords: vintage, bitcrush, digital classic, drums, gritty, hardware emulation, lo-fi, oversampling, samples & loops, synths, crunchy, flat UI, mixing, resizable UI, single-band, sound design, vocals.
What it does
ADDA emulates the analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters of vintage digital gear, aiming for "the sound of vintage digital gear": the grit of early samplers rather than only harsh digital destruction.
- ADC stage: bitcrushing from 24 down to 4 bits and resampling from 44.1 kHz down to 4 kHz, with an optional anti-alias filter to shape the artefacts.
- DAC stage: its own bit depth and dithering controls, so the converter stages can be set separately.
- Interpolation: four algorithms: None, Linear, Sample and Hold, and Cubic.
- Analog stages: input and output saturation controls plus optional analog hiss.
- Emphasis: linkable pre-emphasis and de-emphasis filters, as on early samplers.
- Gain and quality: linked input/output gain, up to 4x oversampling with an automatic adaptive mode, and every module can be bypassed.
- Interface: resizable vector UI with light and dark modes that follow the OS theme.
The current version is 1.0.4. The demo silences periodically and does not save settings or respond to automation.
When to use it
ADDA is the better pick when you want the converter side of vintage samplers, not just a bit reducer. Compared with Decimort 2, it is much cheaper and adds analog saturation, hiss and emphasis filters around the crushing. Compared with RC-20 Retro Color, it stays focused on digital grit and has no wobble or tape-style effects. Compared with Saturn 2 or Trash, it has far fewer distortion types, but it is light on CPU, so you can run many instances.
- Best for: early-sampler grit on drums and loops, crunchy synths, and lo-fi textures.
- Genres: lo-fi, hip-hop and electronic music.
- Look elsewhere if: you want many distortion types in one plugin; Saturn 2 or Trash covers more.
- Tip: HoRNet notes it is very light on CPU, so you can put an instance on each sample or drum channel to build a virtual multi-output vintage sampler.
