80Verb by HoRNet

80Verb is an algorithmic reverb modeled on the digital units of the 1980s, with AD/DA converter emulation and selectable sample rate and bit depth.

It offers up to 10 seconds of decay, 400 ms of pre-delay, a density control and filters on both the input and the reflections. It costs €16.99 (about $19.29).

Best for: Vocals, Drums, Keys & Synths, Guitars, Sound Design. Genres: Pop, Rock & Indie, Electronic & EDM, Ambient & Cinematic.

Keywords: 80s, digital classic, hardware emulation, vintage, simple, algorithmic, synths, vocals, ambience, retro, drums, flat UI, granular, hall, lush, mixing, oversampling, plate, room, snare, sound design, pads.

What it does

80Verb is HoRNet's algorithmic reverb built to "bring back the lush vintage reverbs from the 80s." Much of its character comes from emulating the converters of that era, not only the reverb algorithm, and the developer pitches it for rooms, halls and plates.

The current version is 1.0.1. The demo silences periodically and does not save settings or respond to automation.

When to use it

80Verb is the budget pick for 80s digital reverb with the converter grit under direct control. Compared with VintageVerb, it has one algorithm instead of 22 modes and no built-in modulation, but its bit-depth and sample-rate settings go further into lo-fi digital texture. It is far simpler than hardware recreations such as Relab LX480 or Eventide SP2016, which reproduce specific units in detail at a higher price. Next to Pro-R 2 it is rougher and less flexible, which suits retro material rather than clean modern spaces.

What producers say

There are few independent reviews yet; the coverage found is short but positive about how well it captures the era.
