Harrison Lookahead Compressor (the AVA Lookahead Compressor) is "a highly versatile and powerful dynamics processor, designed for taming sound sources with wide dynamic range."
- Lookahead: allows very fast attack and release times that a standard compressor can't reach.
- Zero-History release: lets it work aggressively on almost any source while staying transparent.
- Controls: combined input meter and threshold slider, plus independent Ratio and Knee controls.
- Metering: a dedicated gain reduction meter.
- Channels: mono and stereo configurations.
When to use it
Lookahead Compressor is a transparent peak-control tool. FabFilter Pro-C 3 also offers lookahead with many more styles, and TDR Kotelnikov is a clean alternative for buses. Pick Harrison's for a simple, inexpensive compressor aimed at catching fast peaks on dynamic sources.
