Mini Orchestra by GSi

Mini Orchestra is a sample-playback instrument from GSi that lets you play nine orchestral sections at once from two hands.

Each section has its own level, pan, envelope and expression control, and it costs €50 (about $56.78).

Best for: Acoustic Instruments, Keys & Synths. Genres: Ambient & Cinematic, Pop.

Keywords: brass, CPU-light, strings, polyphonic, sample-based, simple, woodwinds, AUv3/iOS, choir, cinematic, ensemble, mallets, smooth.

What it does

Mini Orchestra is GSi's compact orchestral module, built to "play a full orchestra with two hands." Instead of separate instruments and articulations, it layers nine composite sections across the keyboard so a single patch can sound like a full ensemble.

The current version is 1.0.0.

When to use it

Mini Orchestra is the quick, playable option: one patch gives you a layered orchestra under two hands, with little setup and low system load. Compared with BBC Symphony Orchestra Core, it has no separate instruments, articulations or mic positions, so it cannot match that library's realism or detail, but users find it easier to play straight away. Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition goes much further again in scope and size. Against these, Mini Orchestra is a sketching and live-performance tool at a much lower price.

What producers say

Users like it as a simple, affordable way to play an orchestra, while accepting its limited depth.
