Magic Tines by GSi

Magic Tines is a tine electric piano from GSi that combines recorded attack and release transients with a synthesized note body.

It has three EP models, amp simulation and a set of vintage effects, for €50 (about $56.78).

Best for: Keys & Synths. Genres: R&B & Soul, Jazz, Acoustic & Classical, Pop, Lo-Fi.

Keywords: electric piano, hybrid, classic, AUv3/iOS, clean, CPU-light, lo-fi, polyphonic, tube, vintage.

What it does

Magic Tines is a hybrid tine electric piano from GSi that aims for "the best of the two worlds": all attack and release transients come from recordings of real electric pianos, while mathematical modelling recreates the body of a tine struck by a rubber hammer.

The current version is 1.0.1. The developer page does not mention a demo.

When to use it

Magic Tines is the better pick when you want one playable tine EP with its classic effects chain built in, at a low price and with a small footprint. Compared with Keyscape, it covers one type of instrument instead of dozens of sampled keyboards, but it uses very little CPU and RAM. Compared with Electric 88 Piano (Waves), which is also a dedicated EP, it adds a six-model phaser, opto tremolo and five amp models in the same window. Unlike Pianoteq 9, whose electric pianos are fully modelled add-ons, it uses real recorded transients for the attack and release.

What producers say

Little has been written about it so far, but the coverage there is is positive about the sound.
