What it does
EQuity is GSi's low-cost visual equalizer: four parametric bands plus input and output filters, with metering and a spectrum analyzer built in. GSi says it began as a simple EQ module and is meant to stay light on CPU so it can run on many tracks.
- Four parametric bands: each with up to 24 dB of boost or cut; the first and last bands switch between shelf and peak.
- Input and output filters: a high-pass filter at the input and a low-pass filter at the output, which make up the six bands of its name.
- Band solo: listen to one band on its own to find the frequency you want to work on.
- Analyzer: a frequency analyzer behind the EQ curve for visual feedback.
- Metering: stereo input and output VU meters with numeric readouts, switchable peak hold and release time, and an output phase meter.
- Preamp: a colour stage built from impulse responses of high-end analog gear.
- Interface: a resizable window.
The current version is 1.0.1. The demo has the full feature set.
When to use it
EQuity is a plain, cheap parametric EQ with good metering. Compared with Pro-Q 4 and TDR Nova it has no dynamic bands, no mid/side processing and a much simpler analyzer, but it costs a fraction of Pro-Q 4. Unlike TDR VOS SlickEQ, which is free and built around a few musical curves, EQuity gives you fully parametric bands, so it suits corrective work more than quick tone shaping. Its IR-based preamp adds a little colour that clean EQs like Pro-Q 4 leave out. It makes most sense as a low-CPU channel EQ for budget setups.
- Best for: everyday corrective EQ across many tracks, with VU and phase metering on hand.
- Genres: any.
- Look elsewhere if: you need dynamic EQ, mid/side bands or a detailed analyzer; Pro-Q 4 or TDR Nova cover that, and TDR VOS SlickEQ is a free option for broad tone shaping.
