What it does
Compact DeLuxe is GSi's (Genuine Soundware's) virtual Farfisa Compact DeLuxe, the single-manual version of the Compact Duo transistor organ. It uses real-time "component modeling" of the original circuit instead of samples.
- Tone generation: a model of the top octave synthesizer design: 12 top-octave oscillators feeding frequency dividers, with full 61-note polyphony.
- recreations of the Farfisa register filters that shape each voice, including their phase shifting.
- Key contacts: multi-contact simulation with adjustable key click, so notes start with the uneven attack of the real keyboard.
- Noise and leakage: adjustable background noise and signal leakage, for the slightly dirty sound of an old unit.
- Vibrato: adjustable speed and depth.
- Effects: built-in stereo delay and stereo reverb.
- Presets and CPU: unlimited program storage, with low CPU and RAM use.
The current version is 1.0.0.
When to use it
Compact DeLuxe is a cheap, dedicated Farfisa model for 60s combo-organ parts. It is very light on CPU. Compared with Arturia's Farfisa V, it costs much less, but its effects are limited to delay, reverb and vibrato, so you will want external amps or effects for heavier tones. Unlike the rated keyboard instruments such as Keyscape or Pianoteq 9, which centre on pianos and electric keys, it covers one organ in depth. Next to GSi's own Red Animal, it gives the Farfisa sound rather than the brighter, reedier Vox Continental.
- Best for: Farfisa-style lead lines and chord stabs in 60s-flavoured arrangements.
- Genres: garage rock, surf, psychedelic, indie and retro pop.
- Look elsewhere if: you want a Hammond-style tonewheel organ (GSi's VB3-II covers that), or a Vox Continental sound (Red Animal).
- Tip: Loopy Pro forum users suggest running it through an amp simulator or external effects for a more live sound.
What producers say
There are no full reviews yet; early users on the Loopy Pro forum were positive about the modelling approach.
- Loopy Pro forum users welcomed the component modelling and noted very low CPU and RAM use.
- Synth Anatomy said at launch that the emulation "sounds very good" and liked that it is synthesis-based rather than sampled.
