What it does

Oxid is the developer's "close simulation" of the ARP Omni-2, a late-70s polyphonic string machine with an added synthesizer section. It pairs the ensemble strings with a paraphonic synth voice, which the developer calls "paraphonic madness".

The current version is 1.0.4 (11 Feb 2026). It is a free download with no price listed; the developer accepts donations. English and French PDF manuals are available.

When to use it

Oxid is the better pick when you want one specific sound: a phased 70s ARP string ensemble, with bass and synth layers under it, for free. Compared with Omnisphere 3 and Pigments 7 it has a tiny fraction of the sound-design range, but every control maps to one instrument and the classic string pad is there in seconds. Compared with CS-80 V, which is a fully polyphonic synth often used for brass and strings, Oxid is simpler and more fixed in character, with a paraphonic synth section rather than full per-voice shaping. Its built-in phaser and chorus cover the classic string-machine treatment without extra plugins.
