Frequency Shifter is a free plugin from Full Bucket Music that moves the whole spectrum of a signal up or down by up to ±5000 Hz for inharmonic, metallic sounds.

It has an LFO with five waveforms and host sync, four ranges and three mix modes; it is free.

Best for: Sound Design, Keys & Synths, Guitars, Vocals. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Ambient & Cinematic, Rock & Indie.

Keywords: free, metallic, mixing, sound design, tempo-synced, vocals, experimental, beginner-friendly, electric guitar, phaser, simple, synths, deep, drums, resizable UI, swirling.

What it does

Frequency Shifter performs Bode-style frequency shifting (single-sideband modulation): it moves every frequency in a signal by the same number of hertz. Unlike a pitch shifter, this breaks the harmonic relationships, so the result turns "raw, inharmonic, metallic" as the shift grows, and mixing it with the dry signal gives unusual phasing effects.

Shift range: up to ±5000 Hz, up or down.
Frequency ranges: four selectable ranges, for fine shifts of a few hertz or large jumps.
LFO: five waveforms with host sync, for moving or sweeping shifts.
Mix modes: three ways of combining the shifted and dry signal.
Stereo: linked or individual control of the left and right channels.
Processing and UI: double-precision audio processing and a resizable interface.

The current version is 2.0.3 (24 Nov 2024). It is a free download; the developer accepts donations.

When to use it

Frequency Shifter is the pick when you want true frequency shifting for inharmonic, metallic or barber-pole-like movement, and want it free and simple. Compared with Instant Flanger Mk II, it cannot do classic tape flanging, but it gives a different kind of endless sweep when mixed with the dry signal. Unlike ShaperBox 3 or LFO Tool, it does not shape volume, filters or rhythm; it does one spectral job. UberMod covers multi-tap delay modulation and chorus-style textures, where this plugin stays focused on shifting and a single LFO. Its small control set also makes it an easy first frequency shifter.

Best for: metallic textures, slow shifting sweeps and sound design on synths, guitars, drums and vocals.
Genres: electronic, ambient, industrial and experimental music.
Look elsewhere if: you want classic flanging, chorusing or tremolo; Instant Flanger Mk II or ShaperBox 3 are better fits.
Tip: blend the shifted signal with the dry one through the mix modes for the unusual phasing effects the developer describes.

What producers say

There are few in-depth reviews; roundups treat it as a solid, easy free choice for trying frequency shifting.

Integraudio listed it among the best frequency shifter plugins, calling it easy to use and small, and suggested it for beginners not yet sure what they need.
AudioTechnology featured it as a free pick and called frequency shifting a "highly underrated" effect.
