Emulation of the Friedman Dirty Shirley 40 tube guitar amplifier, with cabinet simulation.
Best for: Guitars. Genres: Rock & Indie.
Keywords: electric guitar, classic, hardware emulation, tube, British console, 60s, 70s, bass, lo-fi, tempo-synced, vintage, wet.
What it does
The DS-40 models Friedman's 40-watt tube head, which Plugin Alliance describes as influenced by the Marshall JTM-45 and aimed at vintage classic-rock tones from British amps of the 60s and 70s.
- Controls: separate Gain and Master Volume plus Presence, Bass, Middle and Treble.
- FX rack: host-syncable lo-fi delay, noise gate, filters and Power Soak, with an amp bypass option.
- Cabinets: 105 recording chains captured through professional mics and a Neve VXS console, which can be switched off.
When to use it
The DS-40 sits between the other two Friedman models: more gain than Buxom Betty, with an older-style British voicing than the high-gain BE-100.
- Best for: classic rock and hard rock rhythm and lead.
- Genres: blues rock, hard rock, classic metal.
Where to buy
- Plugin Alliance: $75
