What it does

Ircam Verb is a room acoustics simulator that FLUX:: places "halfway between reverberation and a spatialization engine." It builds a space from its time structure, early reflections, a cluster of later reflections and the reverb tail, and is aimed at believable rooms in stereo, surround and immersive mixes.

A 2-channel Ircam Verb Session version comes with the license. A trial is available on request, and it is sold as a perpetual license, with an academic discount.

When to use it

Ircam Verb is the better pick when the reverb has to sound like a real room rather than an effect. Compared with Cinematic Rooms Professional, it gives more direct control over the room's time structure, with a separate cluster stage and per-stage filters, but it has no modulation and is less immediate. It is far more technical than VintageVerb, which offers lush, coloured vintage modes for a fraction of the price. Next to Pro-R 2 it lacks the detailed decay EQ display, but it handles up to 16 channels and Atmos layouts.

What producers say

Users treat it as an excellent, if demanding, reverb for realistic and orchestral spaces.
