What it does
PRYSM is a resampling instrument from Exo Audio that chops a sample into playable slices, splits it into layers and runs each through a reorderable effects chain. The developer pitches it as "one plugin instead of ten."
- BANDS: split a sample into up to eight layers with the FREQ or COMP separation modes; each layer has its own timeline, level, mute and grid shift.
- TIME RND: randomises timing across the bands to find grooves you might not program by hand.
- Effects chain: nine reorderable effects: COLOR (harmonizer), SMEAR (trailing texture), BLOOM (reverb with size, shimmer and width), PULSE (grid-locked volume gate), FILTER (one-knob sweep with a spectral mode), DELAY (synced ping-pong from 1/16 to 1/2), COMP (multiband), EQ (tilt plus three bands) and DRIVE (tube, tape and fuzz).
- FX FIELD: an XY pad where the dot's position sets the balance between effects, with MOTION and SPREAD modes.
- Playback: slices mapped to keys in a piano roll, STOP mode for freezing and hand-scrubbing, and a Render mode that exports a finished WAV.
- Presets and randomiser: 100 factory presets, and a RANDOMIZE button tuned by hand with locks to keep the parts you like.
A 72-hour trial includes all features. The MOTION expansion adds 200 presets and is sold separately.

When to use it
PRYSM is the better pick when you want to turn one sample into many new loops and textures, with the effects built into the chopping. Compared with Serato Sample, it is slower to a basic chop but goes much further, with band splitting, per-layer timelines and nine effects. Unlike Kontakt 8 or HALion 7, it is not a platform for playing large instrument libraries; it is a single creative tool for flipping audio. Compared with Polygon 2 and CR8 Creative Sampler, its focus is on splitting a sample into frequency or component layers and rebalancing effects from an XY pad rather than on layering separate sounds.
- Best for: flipping and re-sculpting samples into new loops, chops and textures for beats.
- Genres: hip-hop, electronic and lo-fi.
- Look elsewhere if: you want fast, straightforward chopping with key detection; Serato Sample is simpler.
