An Evolve-series synth built around dense, low-frequency sound sources for dark drum and bass, atmospheric techno and experimental electronic music.

Four sample or oscillator layers morph on an XY pad, with Quanta, Entropy, Orbit and Infinite macros and a 16-module effects chain.

Best for: Keys & Synths, Bass, Sound Design. Genres: Electronic & EDM, Ambient & Cinematic.

Keywords: dark, basses, evolving, sample-based, macro controls, gritty, cinematic, creative, hybrid, monophonic, textures, drones, experimental, multisampled, polyphonic, preset-driven, randomize, rent-to-own, simple, sound design.

What it does

Evolve Dark Matter, released in June 2026, is a "sample-based synthesizer built around dense, low-frequency sound sources," citing Skrillex, Burial and Jon Hopkins as inspiration.

Sound sources: 250 sources in Acoustic, Bass, Chords, FX, Multisamples, Synths, Textures and Vocals, and 250 presets. A quad-layer engine gives four sources, each a sample player or synth oscillator.
XY Pad: Sounds mode blends the four layers in real time; FX mode sweeps effect and filter parameters.
Macros: Quanta, Entropy, Orbit and Infinite.
Modulation: 12 sources (six ADSR envelopes, two LFOs, velocity, keytracking and the XY pad) assigned by drag and drop; 1 to 32 voices, legato and glide up to 5000 ms.
Filters and FX: dual filters (HPF, LPF, band-pass, peak) in series or parallel, and a three-slot rearrangeable chain drawn from 16 modules such as saturation, bitcrush, delay, reverb, compressor, phaser, auto-wah, speaker, width and pitch drift. User samples can be imported, and one click randomizes sounds, parameters or effects.

KVR lists version 1.0.0. It is sold through Plugin Boutique, and a Lite edition and a rent-to-own plan are also offered.

When to use it

Evolve Dark Matter is a curated set of heavy, low-end sources you blend on an XY pad, so pick it for fast dark atmospheres and basses rather than precise synthesis. It trades the depth of Serum 2 and Phase Plant for designing drum and bass basses from scratch, and it works on a smaller scale than Omnisphere 3 for dark cinematic textures.

Best for: gritty basses, dark drones, evolving atmospheres and textured FX.
Genres: drum and bass, techno, dark ambient, industrial and film scoring.
Look elsewhere if: you want wavetable or FM control over every bass tone; a full synth like Serum 2 does that.
Standout: its low-frequency-focused sample set with four themed macros.

What producers say

Early Plugin Boutique buyers rate it well for dark basses and atmospheres.

Plugin Boutique users rate it 4.7/5 from 47 ratings (2026); the review summary cites "dark, gritty basses and evolving, cinematic atmospheres."
Workflow: reviewers praise the "intuitive interface" and the XY morphing pad (Plugin Boutique review summary, 2026).
